With the first league game of the season going down on a slightly damp note with the skipper patrolling the ground in his wellies.
Saturday the 15th May provided the 1st XI with the first opportunity to don the Totteridge cap at Reed Cricket Club. A beautiful ground situated in a quaint little hamlet in North Hertfordshire.
We managed to get over 85 overs of cricket in which was great and coming out on the right side of things was even better.
Reed won the toss and decided to bat... our lads were delighted with the prospecting on bowling first on a damp wet green one. Smith and Wray set the tone incredibly well with the new ball, passing the outside edge on numerous occasions and made Reed work for every single run. Throughout the first innings Reed never got away, all the bowlers kept them in check well. The standout bowler was our little left arm spinner Iresh Saxena, he's widely regarded in the Premier Division as the best spinner, so much so, that Reed decided their best tactic was the block the **** out of him. He bowled his 10 overs for just 4 runs claiming 2 wickets! Iresh was backed up well by Adnan Mohammed who was as economical as always. I must use this opportunity to call out Adnan who can always be relied on with the ball, yes he doesn't turn it square but is very effective and rarely bowls a bad ball.
Chasing 135 to win we felt confident heading into the second innings. For most of the batters this was their first hit out. Although no one converted into a big score everyone contributed. We won with 3 wickets to spare. Getting over the line given the conditions was a great result and sets us up well for next week.
It was a true team effort with every single player contributing and showcased the depth with have in our team.
Onto Potters Bar next week...
