4s win a tight run chase!

I'm probably not the most qualified to write a match report on this one as I sat it out, but it was thrilling watching it on WhatsApp! With plenty of availability and keenness to play, it was great to have a bit of a selection headache for once with the surplus availability.

In what was a slightly overcast day, Vice Skipper Kam led the team and won the toss, opting to bowl. Jamie H picked up an early wicket and regained his form - getting the opener caught behind in the cordon. Ashul at the other end kept it extremely tight, going for just 10 runs off his 7 overs. A fantastic start by the opening bowling pair!

On came Rahul and Bipin, keeping the runs down with Rahul picking up a wicket. Unfortunately there were a series of dropped catches which stung - eventually leading to their number 3 getting to 81 before Ronak picked up his wicket. All the top 4 in the order were caught behind by Kam! JP WHO?

It was time to bring our U21 player of the year, Smit Kotak who cleaned up emphatically - castling 3 and getting one LBW in a furious spell of bowling that left their number 5,6,7,8 all with ducks! This was a match changing spell which blew the wind into our sails and set us up well to chase a score of 166 (adjusted after losing a few overs to rain).

Smit was tasked with opening the batting and picked up where he left off - timing beautifully to hit 33. A few wickets fell, bringing in Ronak who was keen to get a significant score. And he did just that by keeping the scoreboard ticking with singles, doubles and the odd boundary giving him his season's best of 24 until he was caught.

JK turned up to the crease and hit his first ball for 4, before being typically dismissed before he really got past the 15 mark. After his twin's batting, in came Niren who was incredibly keen to play - so much so that JR gave up his spot. And it paid dividends.

After spending some time getting used to the bowlers, conditions and the pitch, Niren got going - even skipping down the wicket to smash their spinner for a boundary, ending up on his season's best of 28 which was pivotal!

40 odd was left and we were 6 down. Kam came in to see out the innings but only managed 7 before being bowled with Niren perishing soon after.

Squeaky squeaky times. The resolve in the 4s camp and the support given to the batsmen in the middle was invigorating and typical of the 4s' team spirit all season.

Rahul, our expert wildcard batsman at number 9, was tasked with finishing off the innings alongside Mr Piri Piri, Ashul in at 10. 26 runs, 24 balls.

Rahul with his powerful swing and concentration was typically swashbuckling - smashing boundaries and a 6 which turned the tide. The kind of 6 that destroys the opposition's hopes, the captain's tactics and the bowler's confidence. In stark contrast at the other end, Ashul expertly found the edge of the bat and guided it through the gaps - further frustrating the oppo.

5 were needed off two overs. Single. Single. Ashul back on strike. Ashul expertly edges it for four. TMCC win.

I can only imagine the euphoria experienced in the camp, but it was great to follow it over WhatsApp! Certainly our most adrenaline inducing game of the year alongside our first win against Northampton Exiles, with considerable performances from the likes of the Shahs, Smit, Ashul, Rahul and a fantastic captaincy by Vice Skip. You all did us proud once again, boys.
