Darji v Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 31 May 2009 at 13:30
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets.
Match report
A great game played in a great spirit on a beautiful day. What more could you ask for?
Darji won the toss and chose to bat, but were quickly put on the back foot (literally), by debutant Dinesh Ramalingham's blistering pace. His spell of 6-2-13-3 could easily have yielded more wickets and wiped Darji out, but for a bit of bad luck and some solid batting by Darji's no.s 2 and 5.
Neil Dennison then took the reins and unfortunately undid all the good early work, by spraying the ball everywhere, in what he admitted was a very bad day for him (4-0-56-0)
The skipper, who had been promising himself a day off, was forced to intervene and produced a spell of 2-22 to break a large Darji 4th wicket partnership and put TM's back on track. He then retired back to third man, to watch Thiru and other new boys Arun Madhasaravan and Syad Abbas, put in some good work to bowl Darji out for 211 with 8 balls left of the 40 overs.
A confident Webb and Patnaik then got down to the task of 'knocking them off', until Sanjay was caught for 20. This sparked a mini collapse of 3 wickets for 9 runs, until Ramalingham came to the wicket to join Webby. Their partnership of 107 saw Dinesh hit four huge sixes including three in successive balls and Webby hit THREE fours! Dinesh eventually fell attempting one huge hit too many and this caused Webby to lose confidence, get bogged down and eventually throw his wicket away for an otherwise really well made 50.
It was then left to Thiru to try to see us through with the tail, and he did so magnificantly, with a perfectly paced 27 not out. This allowed another debutant, Syad Abbas to strike the winning single with a ball to spare.
Full credit to Darji who fought with us tooth and nail, but always in a good spirit. (No sledging, swearing or tantrums, but never an inch given or taken either!)
Everyone who played in this game will be very much looking to their return visit to us on 30th of August.
