Match report Another fun and enjoyable, if controversial Sunday match.
"A match of two innings each of three halves" was the unusual summary from one of our members.
Roger once again won the toss and decided to bat and all looked great as Riz and Webby raced to a 100 partnership in just 13 overs. However, once Mike threw away his wicket with a horrid un-Webblike shot and Riz mistimed one to offer a simple catch, the middle order preceeded to undo all their good work, as we limped and spluttered to 140-8. Things then took an about turn, as Harish's guest Rocky 'The Rocket' Soni proved to have plenty of firepower, as he smashed 27 not out, and with the assistance of number 11 Luck's big swinging 18 off 8 balls in a last wicket stand of over 30, TMCC somehow posted a respectable total of 191.
Parag 'the cobra' Shah opened the bowling for TMCC and instantly removed one of the Highgate openers. This however was to prove a false dawn, as it brought together Highgate's best two batsman. Miles Hencoe kept them quiet with a super opening spell, but soon the runs were flowing as Sanjay Patnaik and Mike Webb's bowling was put to the sword. The skipper then decided to bring on himself and Rizwan to try and change the game as wickets duly fell, with Riz Siddiqui(2-10) and Roger Luck (3-32) getting back the initiative for TMs. Debutant Waqas Shabir started poorly, but then settled into an excellent match winning spell.
With 5 runs needed for Highgate to win, Roger Luck tempted the no. 11 into a rash shot and the ball lobbed up obliging to Parag Shah. As movements were made to shake hands however, Parag's hands had other ideas in what may go down as drop of the season. TM's never-say-die spirit was unbroken though and three runs later, with the scoreboard saying 190 (1 behind), Waqas got the ball full and straight and was rewarded with an lbw decision.
Game over...Tm's win by 1 run again....thanks for the game lads....well played, etc....then suddenly a voice from the scorebox..."oh sorry lads, missed a run, er, actually it was a tie". Thankfully this was not a league game and nobody really minded, so a tie it is....well played lads....
