Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Sunday XI v Bourne End on Sun 26 Apr 2009 at 14:00
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Won by 98 runs

Match report With the chilly winds from Saturday long gone, a warm spring afternoon kicked off the Sunday season with a high scoring win for TMCC. With both teams short of players, TM's decision to bat first was plain and simple logistics.

A quick start ensued with some loose bowling in the opening overs, but with Kamlesh letting his mind wander a little quicker than the pitch, he played through the onside early and lobbed one up to short mid-wicket with a leading edge.

Clearly the batting was dominated by Chris Mason - ably supported by Riz early on, notching up a handy 24 - who patiently, but emphatically, dispatched Bourne End's bowling throughout his innings of 136. He's certainly raised the bar since arriving and has set both himself and the rest of the club a decent target to beat! His innings was a masterclass in timing - anything over-pitched was dealt with comfortably, and even when turning on the aggression post-100, continued to pepper the boundary with some lofty blows.

Bourne End showed they had a good mixture of youth and experience in their bowling attack - and, though somewhat disheartened by a lack of chances offered by Chris , continued to create chances at the other end. Jez, Shiv and Mohsin all had fairly scratchy / lofty starts (with Jez not even able to use Kam's "leading edge" excuse whilst chipping one up to short mid wicket). Nonetheless, both Shiv and Mohsin's strokeplay started to shine through and both ended up in the 20s. A brief cameo from Neil and the Dentist left a daunting 284 target.

Shahrokh bowled superbly - keeping it (mostly) straight and just short of a length. When he did veer to leg in the first over, some indecision gave Riz a direct hit to run out the Bourne End skipper. Shahrokh was rewarded with a wicket next over, and bowled tightly throughout to end up with 5 maidens.

With possibly his first opening spell for the TMs - Miles performed exceptionally well and managed to baffle Bourne End's opener with some well-directed inswingers.

At 20 overs the not-insignicant-target was looming and the spinners were brought on in due course. Shiv proved there's plenty of turn in the wicket for the spinners this season, and a couple of wickets later the target was becoming unsurmountable for Bourne End. A valiant quickfire 50 from the number 8 bat - hitting boundaries for fun so it seemed – didn’t do nearly enough and Chris Mason finished the innings off with a caught and bowled.

Congratulations all round for a strong win - may it be the first of many!
