“The horror, the horror…..”

This will be a slightly abridged match report to a very abridged game of cricket. Unfortunately for the second time in as many Saturdays the 4s were asked a question and came up wanting. This week the league leaders demonstrated why they are thus positioned.

Having lost the toss TMs were invited to have a bat. Unfortunately we lost Jeremy early doors to a bit of seam movement. Chris and Kamlesh then produced a steady if not thrilling partnership to take the score to 62 before Kamlesh was caught for 21. Chris did not last long either tempted into snicking one having made 26 in an innings directed at all those purists who want to see entire sessions fly by without a shot played in anger. Sanjay was soon given out LBW at which point the 4s were starring down the barrel. Salvation (of sorts) came in the form of Pavan and Sharukh who started playing with plenty of conviction, enough so to force the opposition to adopt defensive field settings. This pair put on XX together at a good rate and were just threatening to help the 4s on the way to a biggish total when Sharukh was c&b hitting one off the splice of his bat having made 23. The remaining batting followed a pattern of go in hit 4 get out and once Pavan was out top scoring with 37 it was apparent that 159 did not represent enough runs to defend against a side who according the to the stats have chased particularly well. Credit to the opposition leg-spinner who took 4 wickets bowling at the end of our innings.

The 4s were relying on last years SAS bowling partnership of Steve and Sharukh to dig them out of the proverbial. Initial signs were promising with Steve (8-2-27-2) collecting two (caught and LBW) and Sharukh (12-2-34-0) applying concerted pressure from the other end. I’m sorry to report that is as near to a sniff as we got as the remainder of the runs were knocked off with ease by the classy opener who finished on 83* and the no.4 who made a half century.

Not a great deal else to say except that we shall pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and take out our collective disappointment on the next poor team who have the misfortune to cross out paths*.
