Match report Final ball thriller at the Green...

A match that see-sawed both ways throughout the day went down to the final ball....final wicket...two runs needed for a TMs win....a wicket and Leverstock Green grab the 30 points...

The day started well for the TMs as under cloud cover and looking for maximum points against the basement team, Shaun O'Brien won the toss and elected to field . Tight opening bursts from Asif Sutaria and Rizwan Siddiqui meant that off the first 10 overs the score was on 27-0. With Matt John introduced into the attack the first wicket fell with the score on 49, the second was not to fall for another 13 overs and 52 further runs. The 3rd wicket partnership took the score onto 159 before Sutaria returned and removed the dangerous Coulshed for 38.

Mason (12-1-60-4) and Such (18-3-66-3) then began to weave their magic, picking up wickets regularly and subsequently reduced the home team to 204-9 with 1 over of the 53 left. However it was the 53rd which proved expensive with 22 being scored and Leverstock Green ending on 226-9.


The TMs began their response in aggressive fashion led by a charged up Mason and O'Brien, the pair put on a fantastic 2nd wicket partnership of 99 before Mason (64) fell stumped. O 'Brien continued to pummel the LG attack but unfortunately he could not find any partner willing to accompany him , the nadir being reached in the 36th over with the entire middle order threesome being removed in five balls.

And so from 160-2 to 162-6 in the space of 14 balls the position looked perilous, however with a run a ball needed off the final 11 overs O'Brien continued to serenely guide his team towards the target. Having reached a brilliant century the tide seemed to swing towards TMS as 7 was needed off 7 balls with Such on 16 and O'Brien on 110 , however the final ball of the penultimate over Such was adjudged lbw and the first ball of the final over O'Brien fell....bowled.

Advantage L Green, with 7 still needed off 5 and just one wicket left the 10th wicket pair of Siddiqui and Sutaria bought the equation down to 2 off 3 balls, advantage TMS, but two dot balls later Siddiqui was left just one more chance. Unfortunately for the visitors he failed to grasp it scoring only a single and thereby ending the match in a tame draw (14 points to TMs) which was really no good to either team but particularly the TMs given the position they were in at the end.

Results elsewhere meant that TMs are still handily placed in 3rd position at the half way point of the season however improvement is certainly needed before any 'notion of promotion' can be entertained.
