Berkhamsted v Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 16 May 2009 at 13:00
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Such and Mason star in 4 wicket triumph...
Berkhamstead 175-7 53 ov
TMCC 176-6 43.2 ov
Peter Such and Chris Mason were the outstanding performers for the TM's second win (from two) of the season as both put in sterling efforts that ended in a 4 wicket triumph away at Berkhamsted.
On a cold and wet day, TMs captain Shaun O'Brien won the toss and decided to bowl, Asif Sutaria (6-1-15-1) was unlucky with the second ball of the day as Berkhamsted's opener George Campbell nicked to second slip only to be dropped and with his second life began to play more agressively. Despite the loss of the other opener to Sutaria, Berkhamstead began to find the gaps and helped by some wayward bowling had reached 44-1 by the 10th over.
With Peter Such and Shaun O'Brien (12-0-48-0) introduced into the attack the run rate slowed down however the home team were still handily placed on 92-1 in the 22nd over when Campbell (clearly convinced that this was his lucky day) decided to take on Aleem Hussain from the boundary. As a certain TM's colt with a passing resemblance to Everton's Felliani can testify, Hussain has a rocket throw and Campbell was well short of the crease as Kalber (who kept admirably well despite not donning the gloves for 10 years) broke the stumps.
This proved the turning point as Peter Such (19-4-42-4) then capitalised on the breakthrough and began to weave his spell on the Berkhamsted middle order. With Chris Mason (13-1-44-1) proving an adequate foil and some outstanding ground fielding in suppport, Berkhamsted could only muster 175-7 off their full allocation of 53 overs.
As TMs began their reply Aleem Hussain fell early however once again the second wicket partnership of Mason (78) and O'Brien (39) of 97 provided the solid base for the challenge and despite a late flurry of wickets for Berkhamsted, TMs ran out comfortable winners with 4 wickets and 4 overs remaining.
