Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club 2nd XI v Wheathampstead on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at 13:00
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Won by 121 runs

Match report On a hot day at the Ridge, Nozmul's sizzling century kept alive TMs outside chance of promotion.

With nine of the eleven fasting....of which two turned up at 2.15pm and the score 7-2 in the 3rd over it was pretty normal start for the 2s. What was to be El Capatain Imran's genius idea you ask.......shove the tail into the middle of course.

Nozmul Hussain (129*) and Waqar Ali (40)then proceeded to hammer the visitors bowling attack to all parts with Ali hitting three sixes. Nozmul joined in by smashing four long ones accompanied by no less than 21 short fellas. Once Ali departed, Nozmul continued his personal onslaught reaching a well deserved century despite limited support and Imran the Merciful eventually stopped the rout in the 44th over by declaring on 262-8.

On a dustbowl of a track, the old ball was retained and the spinners found immediate success with Sameen Khan ( 7-1-39-2) and Imran Khan (7-1-34-1) making early breakthroughs.

It was at this juncture that Imran Khan and Shakeel Durrani (aka Raging Rhino vs Grizzly Giraffe) decided to show everyone what happens when two people go head to head for a catch without a "hello ,how do you do old bean" to the other.

As the ball went up, both protaganists went running full pelt as the rest of the Ridge watched in open mouthed awe at the anticipated collision....and what a collision it was ....as bones crunched, the sound could be heard all across the plains of the Serengeti, the Rhino had bloodied his mouth, twisted his knee and mullered his groin...the Grizzly one took a head of Rhino in his long neck as well as a beefy shoulder in the chest.

Result : The Giraffe limped back to long on but the Rhino had to be winched off to nurse his wounds in the pavilion for 15 mins. Post fight interview; the Rhino claimed that as the long legged wonder had more corners and was a bony bast*** it was no wonder he came off second best - Now now old chap, humble in victory but more importantly, be gracious in defeat!!!

1-0 to the bearded one....bookies made a killing.

Back to the real action......

A stubborn middle order necessitated taking of the new ball and Waqar Ali duly swept up in 12 balls taking 3-10 and concluding the Wheathampstead innings in the 26th over for 141.

A comfortable victory in the end and for promotion, the good form must continue along with a slip up by one of the four teams above the 2s.... who now lie in fifth...16 points behind...two games to go......waiting to pounce....grrrrrrr
