Match report With the winners likely to finish top of the league that evening, TM 2s batting woes were brutally highlighted on a warm day at the Ridge, leading to a crushing 6 wicket defeat at the hands of promotion rivals Redbourn.

Imran Khan won the toss, elected to bat and the innings got off to decent start with both Doug Pyrke (40) and Sameen Khan (25) scoring runs at will. At 82-3 in the 20th over all seemed well, however the 2s all to familiar bed companion aka the mother of all collapses was just lurking around the corner and as the 21st over commenced, she hitched up her skirts and imploded into the TMs batting line up like a deranged banshee from the deepest chasm of Hades. As the smoke cleared and the smell of sulphur eased, the TMs were 88-9 in the 24th over with Jahangir Ahmed and Nozmul Hussain the sole survivors of the hellish attack.

Nozmul then began a classic lower order 2s counter attack (patent pending) smacking seven boundaries in an unbeaten 38, however Ahmed who had admirably restrained his woodcutter’s instinct for 5 overs decided that he had enough and launched the cherry ...to short square leg, where it was pouched comfortably thereby ending the TMs innings for 138 in the 33rd over.

TMs newbie Waqar Ali ( 9-2-42-3) worked up good pace to dislodge Redbourn’s top order and aided by Imran Khan ( 6-3-20-1) reduced the visitors to 68-4, however the opposition’s middle order was made of far sterner stuff then our own and settled down to cruise home in the 31st over by 6 wickets
