Match report
Aleem rains on Eversholt's parade
On a wet miserable day up at TMs second home ground at Rowley Lane, Aleem Hussain put in a superb all round performance to ensure 30 points for the home team to keep them in close contention for promotion.
Imran Khan having won the toss elected to field mindful of the predicted rain in the early evening. TMs made early breakthroughs with a wicket apiece for Rizwan Siddiqui (11-1-37-1) and Nozmul Hussain (9-1-27-1) however the Eversholt middle order proved harder to dislodge as they made steady progress on the flat Rowley lane deck to reach 170-4 in the 42nd over.
It was at this point that Aleem Hussain (11.4-2-31-4) was reintroduced into the attack for a second spell which swung the match in the TMs favour as he and Imran Khan ( 19-2-71-2)demolished the visitors middle and lower order leaving them 213 all out in the 53rd over.
Eversholt's innings had intermittent drizzle, however when it came to the TMs innings the rain became heavier and at 58-1 in the 16th over with 155 required off 31 overs the umpires called a halt to the proceedings.
As the showers were reduced to a light drizzle the umpires and the captains to their credit decided to play on. However as in the 1992 WC semi final between South Africa and England the balls remaining were reduced but the target remained the same.
155 in 25 overs!!
As the match recommenced and with no thoughts of playing for the draw, Yash Zaveri (32) and Tom Kalber ( 43) switched from Test to T20 mode effortlessly and began to carry the attack to Eversholt. Once those two had departed, Sarfraz Ahmed (31)continued the good work however it was the flashing willow of Aleem Hussain that was to make the real difference as he racked up eight 4s and two 6s in a breathtaking innings of 64 off 40 deliveries.
With the equation down to 12 of 18 balls , Imran with two boundaries and a few scurried singles between himself and Rizwan saw the TMs home with 11 balls to spare.
