Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club 2nd XI v Rickmansworth on Sat 16 May 2009 at 13:30
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Won by 62 runs

Match report Khan and Hussain take the plaudits in 62 run win......

TM2s 150 off 40 overs
Rickmansworth 88 all out

Result TMs win by 62 runs

TM2s skipper Imran Khan having studied the latest satellite images from our man at the Met Office and anticipating some early afternoon showers (that is how you plan for a game people!!) decided to bat first upon winning the toss, the captain having an unshakeable belief that the wet ball would be more conducive to willow wielding rather than leather hurling.

The TM2s top order fully justified the captain’s decision to bat, much in the same way that buying a cat fully justifies rearing free range mice, and the TMs serenely moved onto 10 for 3 off seven overs. To say they were in trouble was unwarranted as seasoned observers at The Ridge were quite accustomed to such drama; after all it was only the opening scene….

At this juncture the beleaguered skipper experienced a Damascene revelation and sent in perennial No 11 Hasan Mahmood at No 5, this merely prompted Soomro to exit stage left with the scorebox glinting the figures 18-4 off 9 overs. Newcomer Zakuan Chowdhury (35) then set about repairing the damage with Mahmood who constructed a vital 20 before attempting one leg flick too many and at 40- 5 off 13 overs the boilers were being stoked up for early showers.

However the Commander had held back his Praetorian guard, which consisted of himself , Ajmal Afzal (16*) and Nozmul Hussain (33) and whilst the Rickmansworth men were seemingly already celebrating the victory the counter attack commenced with the experienced campaigner Hussain leading the vanguard. The TMs began to dispatch the opposition bowlers and vital partnerships ensued which led to the innings being concluded with the score on 150, certainly defensible at The Ridge.

Tea was consumed and as tall tales of batting prowess rebounded around the pavilion, Khan decided to harness the confidence in the room and give the new ball to Mahmood and Hussain (6-0-26-3). It was the senior new ball partner Hussain who struck deep and hard into the visitors emasculating their top order aided by Shahrock Naqvee (6-1-13-1) and Afzal (3-0-17-1), once this was done it was left to the captain himself (6.3-2-8-5) to eviscerate what remained and he went about his task with relish as befits a master of his trade.

The limp body of the Rickmansworth innings told the story of a defeat by 62 runs, a superb all round performance by Hussain and the prize of a Michelle for Khan.
