Match report
Well done Sunday side for a good all-round team performance.
Sorry guys a late match report but hopefully will reflect a true picture of a stunning encounter between the above sides where our Sunday side pulled off a stunning victory from the jaws of defeat.
It started off well with our newly appointed Sunday captain Siva Sakthivel taking over from Roger luck, winning the toss and elected to bat. For this forty over a side game, the responsibility to see off the new ball was given to Vivek Mallavarapu and Abhilash Mathew. The pair however had a different idea and influenced by the IPL the ball started to disappear all around the park. Vivek with four aggressive boundaries and a six accumulated 27 valuable runs along with a quick fire 13 from Abhilash. Arun promoted to no 3 slot followed by PK added a few before both fell to aggressive shots. The ball sometimes kept low as it became old and the outfield was very slow due to the rain the previous night. Shahrokh Navaee promoted up the order scored a patient 28 with a couple of boundaries. Rakesh on the other hand was a slightly quicker accumulating 33 runs. This proved to be the longest partnership and the host heads started to go down. The partnership was broken by the leg spinner who was assisted by the reverse sweep from Rakesh and was struck plum in front. Shahrokh provided the stability at the other end while Siva, Thiru and Raj all lost their wicket within a few balls. Veera and Vinod added 20 valuable runs for the last wicket. On a very slow track 154 was not enough but a fighting score.
Veera, started with pace and Vinod with swing, took the new ball. The openers started well with boundaries coming quick and easy. Hence Vinod was replaced by Shahrokh who finished his quota in a single spell with tight figures of 8-3-13-2. The first wicket was courtesy a Jhonty Rhodes effort by Veera who took a sensational catch to dismiss the opener. The other opener was run out by fantastic fielding from Arun at square leg. The No 4 bat was clean bowled for a duck by Shahrokh. Vivek who was holding the other end with Shahrokh bowled the number 3 for a duck.
Arun replaced Vivek and PK took the ball from Shahrokh. Tightening their grip and with wickets falling to Arun from one end while PK was being economical. Arun finished with figures of 7-0-24-3 and PK with 8-2-27-1 did not allow the hosts easy pickings. The captain walked in scored an unbeaten half century with some support from the others, who failed to give him the support. Siva kept mixing up the attack and got Vinod back on, who started well up to the second ball and then dislocated his shoulder. Just as we were about to call 999, Abhilash stepped in and decided to try out the trick he learned from the television series ER. Pop went in the shoulder. Having sorted the medical emergency we started to concentrate on the game with injured Vinod being replaced by a Substitute provided by the opposition (thanks to the opp.sub fielder who took an easy catch and saved couple of runs). With last 7 over and 59 runs to get suddenly a couple of boundaries created the perfect panic with almost every fielder on the rope. This obviously opened up the hosts to fetch the singles and doubles that they happily accumulated.
Suddenly 18 runs required of the last 2 overs and they picked up 11 runs from the 39th over. last over and 7 runs to get, Vivek produced a brilliant last over with A.B standing close to the stumps to get the victory for the visitors.
