Match report Superb ton by Warsi ensures draw....just!!

The TMs travelled up the A41 on a cloudy morning, confident of reprising the previous week's good form, this time against high flying, Div 2 bound Northchurch.

The home team won the toss and decided to bat on a flat , hard deck and got off to a steady start despite plenty of close calls against the new ball. It took the introduction of Doug Pyrke to prise open the Northchurch line up and thereafter a combination of Arun and Waqar began to exert serious pressure on the top order with 3 wickets resulting in a score of 140-4 in the 40th over. However the butter fingered malaise that has stalked the 2s all season was about to strike again.

As the first of no less then 10 opportunities were spurned , the Northchurch batters pushed the gas and raced to 261-6 off 53 overs leavings the TMs more than a little battered (albeit self inflicted) at tea.

M R Warsi having only bowled 4 overs decided to take on Northchurch with his bat and opened with some scintillating strokeplay accompanied by the injured (swollen right hand during fielding)Crutchmeister, this led to an infantile response by their opening bowler barging the 5'4'' Warsi on no less then 3 occasions whilst the vertically challenged opener was running between the wickets. It took various interventions and warnings to defuse the situation however the brave, courageous all-northchurchian superhero then decided to abuse our umpire - a true gentleman of the game.

Enough words on that non-entity, let me continue, when Cruthchers fell on 11 enter Kaushan who with Warsi pummelled the home team bowling attack to all parts in a quickfire, 100 run, second wicket stand.

With 120 needed off 15 overs and 9 wickets in hand, the TMs were glimpsing the hallowed three zero for the second time in the match. However for the second time in the match the ridge boys decided to p*** the advantage up the wall, lost wickets every other over and despite Warsi reaching his maiden ton , nearly ended up losing a match they should have comfortably drawn with a minimum loss of wickets at the very least.

Yes we have our excuses , we have lost more matches to the weather then any other team in the league , there have been 31 people representing the 2s this season, virtually every other team is a 1st team or has a pro/overseas, etc etc but...but....if we do not take regulation catches, do not bother to put the effort into our ground fielding , do not concentrate on the game whilst waiting to bat then I am afraid we only have ourselves...and no-one else to blame for sitting 50 points off the promotion places.

Lads, we have 120 points to play for ....lets get to the ridge early on Sat....work at the non glamorous stuff and make sure we push the teams above us all the way into September....
