Highgate v Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 16 May 2010 at 1:00pm

Match report
This was definately a game to forget.
Firstly after his team's poor punctuality the previous week, the Captain did his best to sharpen things up, ensuring everyone was at Highgate CC at 12.30 for a 13.00 start. Unfortunately Highgate had a 14.00 start time down and the skipper was faced with one solid hour of grief from Mark Dearing (brought into the side solely to increase the standard of banter)!
The Highgate supremo then asked me if we had any quick bowlers. I consider a seam attack of Siva, Shahrokh, Mark D and myself to be all medium pace at best, so replied "no". This made him choose a 'faster' track to use. No problem to me. However it soon became a problem, as Highgate's tactic of interspersing their 1st XI batsmen with 12 and 13 year olds meant them complaining about the use of our seamers to the Colts. However this meant that if we put on slower bowlers, the 1st team bats would get to 'fill there boots'. A very difficult situation which meant that the last 15 overs were bowled by a combination of Rahul bowling his very effective off spin and me bowling my less effective flighted leg spin. By this time the rain was coming down though and we were happy to get through the overs quickley and get off, having conceeded less than 4 runs per over.
Tea was protracted as the T20 final caught the attention of many.
When we finally got out again, it was thankfully dry though. Webby and Phil Ridout made short work of cutting into the deficit, but after 6 overs and the scoreboard reading 25-0 the heavens opened, and that was that. This was particularly disappointing for Webby, who had made the journey from Norfolk just for the game.
Lets hope for a better game and some sunshine next week.......
