Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Sunday XI v UCS Old Boys on Sun 09 May 2010 at 1:00pm
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report A really enjoyable game against a very strong UCS Old Boys side.
The skipper won the toss and elected (as always) to bat. A few eyebrows were raised as Phil Ridout was chosen to open with Thiru. This decision was made as whenever I had seen Phil bat, he had always played the seamers well and the spinners not so well. The hunch paid off as Phil batted superbly, using the pace on the ball to score runs all round the wicket. Despite losing Thiru early, Phil plowed on and with assistance from a florishing Arjun, pushed the score to 100-1 at drinks (20 overs). His knock of 45 enriched with a cracking pull for 6 which sent Nick rushing to clear up the broken glass from a battered oppo. changing room window. Drinks bring wickets though, and straight after his refreshment, Phil was bowled by a spinner with one that almost bounced a third time before nudging his stumps. Kamlesh replaced Phil, but got a beauty before he was set. Leaving Rakash (19), Prakash (13), Shahrokh (21*) and Arun (14) to play cameos whilst Arjun built a mighty innings of 95. He was dropped three times on route, but showed some real class and awesome hitting power to suggest this will not be his only big innings of the season.
We knew at the half way stage we still had one hell of a job, as last season with a very strong (Dinesh led) attack, UCS still managed to score 220+. So we puffed out our chests and went to battle.
The openers were clearly very good players and Shahrokh, Siva and Arun found that wickets were far harder to come by than in the previous days league games. By the time drinks came, the scoreboard read 102-0 off 20 and the skipper wondered how he would rally his troops. I needn't have worried because as we made our way to the fluids, players were running towards me. Resisting the urge to turn and run, I was greeted with "we are still in this", "we can still win this", and "we are not out of this yet". This great attitude carried into the last 20 overs as the number two bat was well caught by PK off the skippers bowling and Rahul had the no.3 well caught by Thiru. The other opener was ploughing on though and when Shahrokh shelled a catch off the skipper at long-on, it looked all over. However no heads dropped, some amazing efforts were made in the field by the ever improving Arun and Siva, while Rakash was showing what a useful asset he can be to the club in the field too. In the end UCS got over the line with 3 balls to spare, but if we keep up this attitude during the season, further defeats I hope will be rare.......
