Match report the best laid plans of mice and men...

A bizarre match where St Albans for some inexplicable reason decided to let their overseas Aussie bat forever and a day and therefore ensured they could limit their own chances of winning the game to an absolute minimum.

Without looking at the wicket St Albans skipper elected to bat , not surprising as he clearly had an ace up his sleeve with the inclusion of an antipodean lad who would probably be playing first team cricket for St Albans had they already not had surplus of overseas players , this being confirmed by the fellow himself!! Anyway , enough of the whining , he did play a brilliant knock of 141.

This was after a very decent start start to the bowling from Rizwan (13-4-50-2) and Waleed ( 7-0-38-1)with St Albans struggling at 20-1 after 10 overs and then being 80-3 after 20 overs. However the one man St Albans batting show coming in at four was just getting his eye in and he proceeded to punish anything slightly loose to notch up his century in smooth style, being particularly harsh on Shahrock (17-0-98-3)and Kazmi (6-0-50-1).

Once his century was reached then the twilight zone was entered into by the visitors via the Bermuda triangle..... century scored , team total on 240 odd ,46 overs bowled, only 5 wickets down and opposition flagging, mmmmmmmm......what shall we do, I know, lets carry on batting for the full 53 overs seeing as we are in the bottom half of the league , are lodged below the opposition and in desperate need of a win. Also we need as many overs to bowl our opponents out whilst still offering them a sniff of victory so anchors are not dropped and wicket taking becomes that much harder. Yep lets carry on batting....!!!

Anyway, your correspondent was determined that a lesson needed to be taught to the visitors and his cunning plan (hatched by a wily fox who is Professor of cunning at Oxford university) was to get more points then them despite the target being obviously out of reach.

So, Target 1 , not to lose - Target 2 get to 200 and ensure we get 19 points and they end up with less, oooooh nearly there as we finish on 186-7 with another superb example of concentration and unflappability by Aniket (49*) who carried his bat for 47 overs, ably supported by Haris Ali(39) and Pasha Ali(36) - therefore both teams end up on 17 each , happy with that lads as they slip a further two places and we move up, lesson learnt, I doubt it.

So another draw , and our lack of a second genuine new ball seamer becomes ever more apparent, hopefully with the return of Nozmul Husain next week we can reprise our opening season 'form' and perhaps get a second win.....would be nice.
