Match report
Captain to the fore....
A sterling performance with the bat by Imran Khan, scoring a chanceless, unbeaten 62, ensured the 2s a hard fought draw (11 points)in a match against County Hall they were seemingly destined to lose.
Having won the toss, County Hall elected to bat and struggled early on against the new ball pairing of Rizwan (13-2-56-2) and Steve (12-2-33-0), with the former removing both openers. As the TMs turned to spin in the 20th over, the home team were 61-2 and looked to up the scoring rate. This they managed to do , particularly against the leg spin of Ali Kazmi (12-1-68-3) who despite the tap, managed to get three wickets.
County Hall continued batting aggressively, regularly finding the boundary and despite some excellent TMs ground fielding, resulting in two run outs from boundary throws, they finished on 248-7 in 53 overs.
TMs innings was in early trouble with the loss of Joe Askham and Hasan Ali, however for the second week in a row, new boy Waleed Khan (53) batted with confidence and skill to notch up his second half century in as many games. With his dismissal another mini-collapse ensued meaning that once again TMs had no chance of winning the game and on 98-7 in the 29th over were heading for another defeat.
However the experienced pair of Rizwan (17) and Imran (62*) had other ideas and once again demonstrated steely resolve that has unfortunately been absent from the top order in recent weeks. The pair batted until the final, 47th over in a 65 run partnership that took the TMs into the batting points. Despite the late drama of a run out off the first ball in the last over , Mr Chairman, Steve Lyall, saw off the final five deliveries, ensuring the draw and finished the match in style with a boundary.
